Brassidium (Brsdm.) Shooting Star is the progeny of Brsdm. Gilded Urchin by Brassia Edvah Loo. Brsdm is composed of crosses between hybrids and species of Brassias and Oncidiums. When the clone 'Maui Maid' was awarded an Award of Merit (AM), by the AOS, in 2000, the plant carried seventeen (17) flowers well presented on one arched inflorescence; sepals and petals golden yellow, spotted chocolate basally; lip bright, crystalline yellow, spotted chocolate proximally; substance firm; texture of sepals and petals matte. The flowers were 13.60 cms ( 5.3 inches) in natural spread. The plant grows into a large specimen plant quickly under normal Oncidium culture.
