Cattleya schilleriana Rchb. f. 1857 has a dwarf growing habit. A native of Brazil, this species blooms in late spring or early summer. Cattleya schilleriana does well mounted or in baskets, with a well draining media, such as coconut chips. Ample light and ventilation are two requirements, which must be met, to ensure sucess with this species. The species first bloomed in the collection of Consul Schiller at Hamburg, Germany, during the fall of 1857. Reichenbach named the species in honor of Consul Schiller.
