Dendrobium unicum Seid. |
Culture Legend--- Temp: I-W |
This cute little Thai dendrobium was known for many years as Dendrobium arachnites. It is a small plant, only about 6 inches tall. It is unique ( hence the latin name unicum ) in that it is decidous, but in the second year. After leaf fall, several stems of very bright orange flowers appear from nodes along the cane. The flowers are large for the plant and are strangely shaped. The lip is turned down, so one has to turn the plant over to see the beautifully marked throat and lip. Easily grown as a mounted or pendulant basket grower. Enjoys somewhat cooler temperatures in the fall and winter, with plenty of water, bright shade, and fertilizer in the spring/summer growing season.
